The 5th Annual Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebration in Wichita, KS was held on Sunday, the 19th of April at the Tall Oaks ground. This years event was also organized by the Sri Lankan Student Association of Wichita State University and it was a resounding success. Thanks go out to the people who attended and participated under bad weather conditions.

2nd Vesak Program was held on Sunday the 31 st of May 2008 at the Lao Buddhist Association of Kansas in Wichita . The morning events consisted of observing Atasil, meditation and Bana. The lunch Dana was provided for everyone in attendance. The Vesak lantern exhibition and Dansal were held on Sunday evening.

The 4th Annual Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebration in Wichita, KS was held on Sunday, the 13th of April at the Tall Oaks ground. This years event was organized by the Sri Lankan Student Association of Wichita State University and it was a resounding success. Thanks go out to the people who attended and participated under testing weather conditions. This year turned up the most number of people and the events were very well organized. The food was great and the entertainment was varied. All in all it was a very memorable experience.

The annual meeting of the Kansas Buddhist Vihara was held on Saturday, the 17th of November 2007 at the Wat Wichitaram Buddhist Vihara(Thai Buddhist). A discussion was held on the future endevours of the vihara along with a look back at a successful year of serene events.
One Day Meditation Retreat

A one day meditation retreat was held on Saturday, August 18th 2007 at the hushed environment of the Laos Buddhist Temple. Once again presided over by Bhante Maitipe Wimalasara Thera, this event was of great importance as a one-day time-out to observe the inner workings of the mind. A moderate crown of around twenty actively participated and they learned to practice Noble Silence, the Buddha's way to enlightenment and observed the Ajiva Attamaka Sila, the eight precepts. Many helped with lunch and tea preparation for the participants. This is another first for the Sri Lankan community in Wichita.
A Vesak Program to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and death of Lord Buddha was held on Sunday the 20 th of May 2007 at the Lao Buddhist Association of Kansas in Wichita . The morning events consisted of observing Atasil, meditation and Bana. The lunch Dana was provided for everyone in attendance. The Vesak lantern exhibition and Dansal in the evening was held with grand aura under the starry evening sky. The total count was tallied as around one hundred and twenty, which is quite a fair attendance. Groups from neighboring cities of Kansas City , Manhattan and Oklahoma City joined the community in Wichita to celebrate this ultra successful event.
A sermon was held on the “Teaching of the Buddha” on 2nd December 2006 at Wichita State University .This was presided by Rev. Maitipe Wimalasara who came all the way from Los Angeles , CA. This event was organized by the Sri Lankan Community in Wichita and it attracted over fifty of our faithful Buddhist and non-Buddhist public. The event was a major success and was the first event of this sort in the city of Wichita . At the end of the sermon, a discussion was held to plan the construction of the first Sri Lankan Buddhist temple in Wichita.
